Concrete Needs a Lift? 510-200-4540How long does concrete lifting last?Repairing sunken concrete will last for a very long time; regardless, if you use mudjacking or polyurethane foam. Both materials are very durable and will not erode or decay away. Nor will both of these materials settle and create a gap as they will become part of the bottom of the concrete slab. However, the soil beneath the mixture could give out to soil erosion. If the soil underneath the slab and the repaired section is not compacted properly, then it may cause the slab to once again settle in to the ground. There is not much that contractors can do to stop soil from being exposed to ground water and shifting, so in this case the slab may just need to be lifted yet again.

What kind of foam is used to lift concrete?
There are two main materials that may be pumped beneath a slab to level it with the surrounding area. These materials are polyurethane foam and a slurry that is associated with mud-jacking. The term mudjacking is refers to a method that used in fixing and leveling concrete slabs. It may also be called concrete leveling, pressure grouting or slabjacking. Concrete leveling, or "mudjacking" is a process in which concrete or other material is pumped under an existing concrete slab that has been cracked or has become uneven, to level out the slab make the surface level again. Therefore, mudjacking will attempt to alter the foundation of an uneven concrete surface so that the slab does not need to be replaced. Concrete leveling has become a much cheaper alternative instead of replacing the old broken concrete slab, and has become commonly used for small businesses, homes, factories, warehouses, airports and on roads, highways and other infrastructure. Pretty much everywhere is utilizing Mudjacking because it saves time and money. Leveling out the concrete is a fairly easy process. A water/dirt/concrete mix is pumped beneath the concrete area to lift the slab back up. This mixture of materials is referred to as a “slurry”. The ingredients will vary depending on the different type of company, and even some jobs may use a more think mixture of materials. Mudjacking can also be utilized to correct other problems around the house such as foundation settling, crumbling curbs and repairing falling sidewalks.
Polyurethane foam is used in a number of different applications. Polyurethanes are a strong material that is often used to manufacture high-resilience foam seating, rigid foam insulation panels, and durable elastomeric wheels for roller coasters, for elevators. Repairing concrete slabs is simplified with high-density polyurethane foam that is injected beneath the slab of concrete to raise it up, and keep it level with the area around it. High-density polyurethane is very popular marketplace-driven product because of the low cost and quick repair it offers. There is not a lot of equipment or machinery that is required for pumping polyurethane. Just a pumping system and the container that holds to foam is needed for the installation. Crew members pull the hose to the area being repaired and inject polyurethane foam under the slab through a series of holes drilled into the concrete, filling voids and raising it to the proper level. Polyurethane concrete raising much quicker than other repair methods, and will only take about a few hours till your concrete is fully repaired. Polyurethane has a high durability and provides a solid and dense product that can permanently support the roadway structure. Therefore, it will provide a sturdy foundation allowing you to not worry about walking or driving over the repaired concrete slab. However, consumers must remain cautious about HVAC ducts that may run through the floor since the foam could infiltrate and clog them. It’s also necessary to perform plumbing tests prior to the foam injection to ensure there are no leaks in the supply or drain lines. So having a professional do the job will be very important to make sure the problem is fixed, and that no additional problems are created. |
